The brainchild of local spoken word artist, Dwayne Morgan, When Brothers Speak brings together artists at the top of the genre in an uncensored forum of expression. “We still live in a society where rappers and athletes speak for us, and the idea of Black men speaking intelligently seems like an oxymoron, even with President Obama in the White House” says Morgan. When Brothers Speak debunks that myth, takes spoken word out of coffee houses and dimly lit clubs, and puts it right in the theatre district.
