Jully Black

She's an immensley talented artist, and she's Canadian! Back again with her newest offering The Black Book. Her first single off the album called 'Running' is a very catchy , great treadmill song and challenging vocally. Jully is great to see in concert, not to mention hilarious.

Check out a shot from behind the scenes at a recent photo shoot. Love those accessories!

I remember hearing a few years back about a car accident he was in. It took him awhile to recover. He had been living privately with the cancer for over 6 months. So young.

Walk tall

On the fashion show circuit, models worth their salt know their walk is their livelihood. It's a lot harder than it looks. Some of the greatest models have a weak walk. Some lose it like Naomi, Cindy, or Linda. Here is a child protege catwalking..

Are you a Player HaterHer?

I consider this a light read but the topic is still relevant. Some women feel threatened by other women's successes. Other characteristics that often describe these women: self absorbed, attention seeking, entitled. The book discusses various situations women find themselves in work and social environments. The book is written partially by Tamara 'Taj' Johnson-George. The name might jog your memory to late 90's r&b sensation SWV. You can find this book selling on www.amazon.com

Fashion...and relationships

There was once a reality show called 'Glam God'. The premise was to produce a Stylist - extraordinare. One of their challenges involved couples and fashion and how they should look cohesive. There are only a few couples I see that really embrace the 'dressing together' part of their relationship. My question is, can you still maintain your own style and be able to blend it with your partner without diluting your edge?

Outliers: The Story of Success

I found this book so fascinating..if you ever wondered why some people excel and others dont, this is a great read.

Malcolm Gladwell poses a more provocative question in Outliers: why do some people succeed, living remarkably productive and impactful lives, while so many more never reach their potential? Challenging our cherished belief of the "self-made man," he makes the democratic assertion that superstars don't arise out of nowhere, propelled by genius and talent: "they are invariably the beneficiaries of hidden advantages and extraordinary opportunities and cultural legacies that allow them to learn and work hard and make sense of the world in ways others cannot." Examining the lives of outliers from Mozart to Bill Gates, he builds a convincing case for how successful people rise on a tide of advantages, "some deserved, some not, some earned, some just plain lucky."Outliers can be enjoyed for its bits of trivia, like why most pro hockey players were born in January, how many hours of practice it takes to master a skill, why the descendents of Jewish immigrant garment workers became the most powerful lawyers in New York, how a pilots' culture impacts their crash record, how a centuries-old culture of rice farming helps Asian kids master math. But there's more to it than that. Throughout all of these examples--and in more that delve into the social benefits of lighter skin color, and the reasons for school achievement gaps--Gladwell invites conversations about the complex ways privilege manifests in our culture. He leaves us pondering the gifts of our own history, and how the world could benefit if more of our kids were granted the opportunities to fulfill their remarkable potential.

11th Annual When Brothers Speak

Come watch Black men dazzle you with their talent!
The brainchild of local spoken word artist, Dwayne Morgan, When Brothers Speak brings together artists at the top of the genre in an uncensored forum of expression. “We still live in a society where rappers and athletes speak for us, and the idea of Black men speaking intelligently seems like an oxymoron, even with President Obama in the White House” says Morgan. When Brothers Speak debunks that myth, takes spoken word out of coffee houses and dimly lit clubs, and puts it right in the theatre district.

Silicone Diaries

Transsexual Nina Arsenault may be perceived as "fake", but the sixty cosmetic surgeries that transformed her from an awkward man into a 36D-26-40 bombshell are anything but. The Silicone Diaries is a full, frank and fierce exploration of the contradictions associated with the quest for beauty, balanced by an intimate and spiritual account of Arsenault's adventures in plastic surgery. The play explores the perceived differences between 'inner' and 'outer' beauty, and challenges definitions of 'realness' and 'fakeness'. Along the way, Arsenault proves an engaging raconteur chronicling everything from Playboy Bunny fantasies to black market injections, a Mexican castration, and a "Crying Game-style" collision with rocker Tommy Lee. Have you seen it yet?

Michael Jackson's This Is It" will offer Jackson fans and music lovers worldwide a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the performer as he developed, created and rehearsed for his sold-out concerts that would have taken place beginning this summer in London's O2 Arena.

Chronicling the months from March through June, 2009, the film is produced with the full support of the Estate of Michael Jackson and drawn from more than one hundred hours of behind-the-scenes footage, featuring Jackson rehearsing a number of his songs for the show.

Audiences will be given a privileged and private look at Jackson as he has never been seen before. In raw and candid detail, "Michael Jackson's This Is It" captures the singer, dancer, filmmaker, architect, creative genius, and great artist at work as he creates and perfects his final show.

So Ambitious - Jay Z with Pharrell

Motivation for me, is them telling me what I could not be
Oh well

I felt so inspired by what the teacher said
Said id either be dead or be a reefer head
Not sure if that’s how adults should speak to kids
Especially when the only thing I did was speak in class
Ill teach his ass
Even better what my uncle did
I popped my demo tape in start to beat my head
Peeked out my eye, see if he was beatin’ his
He might as well said beat it kid,
He’s on the list
It’s like im searching for kicks
Like a sneaker head
You gon’ keep pushing me til I reach the ledge
And when I reach the ledge, I tell em all to eat a dick
Take a leap of faith and let my eagle wings spread

(Chorus)
Motivation to me, is them telling me what I could not be, oh well
Im so ambitious, I might hit two sisters,
Hey im on a mission, no matter what the conditions
Fuck the personal issues, when u go what I been thru,
hey, if you believe it, then you can conceive it

Verse 2
Had to lace up my boots, even harder
Father is too far away to father
Further, more of the kids either
Smoke reefer or either move white
Theres few writers, in my cipher
So they made light of, my type of
Dreams seem dumb, they said wise up
How many guys are? You see making it from here
The world don’t like us, is that not clear, alright but
Im different I cant base what im gon’ be, off
of what everybody isn’t, they don’t listen
Just whispering behind my back, no vision,
Lack of ambition, So Wack!

(Chorus) Pharrell
Motivation to me, is them telling me what I could not be, oh well
Im so ambitious, I might hit two sisters,
Hey im on a mission, no matter what the conditions
Fuck the personal issues, when u go what I been thru,
hey, if you believe it, then you can conceive it

Verse 3
Had a couple of meetings, no office yet
Maybe I aint good enough for these offices
Back to the drawing board, ducking officers
Its all good cuz the streets, is A&R'ing this
So with or without any of your involvement
We coming for all of this, respect my conglomerate
I went from pauper to the president, cuz every deal I ever made said precedent
Niggas probably thought I'd fall without ol' buddy, oh buddy
What I do is make more money
Dear teacher, you probably somewhere speaker
Im balling out of control, can you hear my sneakers?
Fuck yall!!

This little diddy is from Hova's most recent contribution, The Blueprint 3. For me, the entire album is a message is determination, ambition, goal setting, being thankful and grateful. Despite the curse words..the song still resonates.
